Bui Chat holds a B.A. in Literature and a second B.A. in Law, and has not undertaken formal training in art.

Prior to his emergence as a professional painter, he was established as a poet and a key member of Mo Mieng, one of the most influential collectives in contemporary Vietnamese poetry. He has published eight poetry collections, with works translated and introduced in several languages, and is also noted for his significant contribution to independent publishing.

After several interruptions in his painting trajectory, Bui Chat returned to the medium with sustained focus in 2019. He is currently developing a distinct approach he terms Solverism.

Bui Chat’s rapid succession of thirteen solo exhibitions positioned him as a prominent presence—while also making him one of the most widely discussed and debated figures in Vietnam’s art landscape in recent years.
